• Daily Inspirations

Today’s Thursday so this evening I’ll be ready to show my support and admiration to all those who are working so hard to support the country during the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m trying to use the time during this lock down for positive experiences which I think helps me to not feel overwhelmed by the situation.

One of the things I’ve done has been to start my own YouTube channel, ingridhillart. Now I have to say this has been quite a steep learning curve for someone who’s happier using a paint brush than a computer mouse! And although I may not have quite mastered recording the perfect video yet, I have added several sketchbook flip throughs and a couple of short videos of me working on a recent teasel painting.

Last week I talked about being inspired by my daily walks and I think this is especially true at the moment. I find I am noticing more than ever the changes as nature comes back to life after the winter, the way the early morning light filters through the trees and the sound of bird song without the background hum of traffic.

I’m enjoying experimenting in my sketchbooks in a looser and more suggestive style, I will be using these sketches for reference for a new collection of paintings.

In the studio I’ve been busy revisiting a watercolour of a bluebell wood in a village not far away that I did several years ago.  Going back to a painting isn’t something that I do very often, but I felt this particular painting would be nice with the addition of some mixed media. I have added inks and acrylic paints to produce richer colours, tones and textures. One of the benefits of using acrylic is that they can be painted dark to light and visa versa so I have also added in a few pale silver birch trees for added interest.

To help keep in touch during isolation along with my new blog I’ve recently sent out my latest newsletter. If you’d like to subscribe to receive my newsletter on a regular basis, approximately every 6 weeks, please click here.

    Stay safe,

    Ingrid
