I am a watercolour and mixed media artist, tutor and demonstrator. I feel incredibly lucky to do something I absolutely love for my job and to also be able to share my love of painting with others.
I am fortunate to live in a small village within the National Forest, which is a constant source of inspiration for me on my daily dog walks.
I love that my artistic journey isn’t static but is always changing. The things that inspire me to pick up my paintbrush to try and capture a moment or feeling are constantly changing. I enjoy the fact that my inspirations will be different today to those of last week or last year and they in turn are different to what they were the year before that.
Over the last few years I have been particularly interested in creating paintings with interesting textural effects. I’ve been developing a loose expressive style using watercolour and mixed media.
I’m very interested in the different pigment properties within my watercolour paints. For me personally, I find its important to know if the colour I’m using is transparent or opaque, staining, granulating and made up of single or multiple pigments. I use this knowledge when deciding which materials to use on a painting depending on the desired effect.
I keep a daily sketchbook which I find invaluable. I use it to explore ideas, to experiment with different materials and techniques, and to simply enjoy the process of creativity without any pressure to produce a ‘finished’ painting.
One of the joys for me of working in watercolour is its unpredictable nature, I love letting it do its own thing with a little gentle encouragement from me!
My aim is to create paintings based upon my feelings, emotions, and experiences rather than a direct copy of a particular time or place. Why not have a look at some of my work?
I’ve always enjoyed sharing with others my love of painting, and in doing so hopefully encouraging others with their own creativity.
I am fortunate to do this in various ways including tutoring weekly adult watercolour classes and workshops, and demonstrating to art clubs and societies. I have also produced online tuition and complete painting kits for people to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.
